Centuries

I've disliked the cost and the traffic associated with car ownership and driving enough to often commute by bike for most of my adult life, but Wandrer was my entry into cycling as a hobby. When I completed Baltimore, I was momentarily at a loss for what to do next. It was natural to start doing much longer, sustained rides, and after doing my first century while visiting Seattle, and then another in Maryland, I decided to try to do one in each state. I track that progress here.

The process of constructing the square state grid above taught me some great trivia about US geography. For example, Minnesota is the northernmost state in the contiguous US by about 133 miles; I would have guessed Maine. Washington is the westernmost (this is believable). Removing the contiguity constraint, Alaska is the westernmost, northernmost, but also the easternmost, under the hemisphere definition, since the Aleutian Islands cross the anti-meridian.
